42” x 20”, Inkjet Print. My poster is a parody in the style of “Choose your own adventure” books. The reason for this is to show how people make their choices when they procrastinate too much. The idea behind this piece is that people will set outto do something, then either give up either half way or find someway to get out of their personal commitments to themselves or their friends. The pages for the choices all go to the exact same place (the beginning) because when you procrastinate, you just end up right back where you started and you never go forward with anything.

How often you comment on other students work?

I comment on other students work as much as I can or when the class requires…

Were comments from other students helpful? Why or why not?

I found other people’s comments helpful since they pointed out the flaws in my work and I could work on them to make the next work better.

Was posting about your own work helpful? Why or why not?

Posting up my own work was helpful because it gave people the chance to give me a heads up about how well it was.

Did you post more work than was asked for?

Unfortunately, I don’t think I posted more work than what was asked.

Did you look at old work before moving onto new work?

I looked at a few of my earlier pieces of my projects before moving on.

What was the most useful aspect about posting work?

The most useful aspect was being able to get other people’s opinion earlier.

What was the least useful aspect about posting work?

Having to get the posting in before a certain time on some projects. Also It feels like blogging might have to iron out some issues to make the process smoother.

Would you recommend blogging to other students? Why or why not?

I would recommend them to blogging but I would also tell them to get their stuff in on time!

This poster by adbuster is one that caught my attention for its use of shock to show that drinking can lead to a pointless death on the streets. Adbuster specializes in Culture Jamming techniques to get their message across to change the way people think.

For my topic, I’m think I’ll go with the theme of people who talk too much crap or take themselves too seriously. What I’m referring to are people who do nothing but misled people with lies and garbage to get them to believe that their opinion about something is right and everyone else is wrong. It’s one of the things that piss me off to no end. Here’s an example of what I mean:

It relies on using a high authority figure and quotes to get the idea that banning gay marriages is the right idea. That is bullshit.

My idea is to place an emphasis on words and slogans like the one in the picture to get the message across. I want my audience to get pissed that they are people still arouund that expect people to go with what they say or they’re no better than the enemy (case in point, Bush telling the terrorist to “bring it on” and “If you not with me, you’re against me”). I havn’t made a concrete message per se, so I’ll have to work on that in the week to come.

1. I’ve used pictures from magazines in my prior projects (Both Rock Posters) without express permission from the original photographers. For those projects, I essentially used them as a way of expressing a sort of haughty attitude. I wouldn’t say I transformed them enough from their original pictures and I tried to keep to lessen the amount of copyrighted materials as possible (that is, I aimed for using the just basic models and nothing more).

2. Example 1 was a picture of a public display. While it would normally be unfair to sue the photographer, in this case he was in the wrong by taking a photo of the art and then selling the pictures so I sided with the original artist. Example 2 & 3 are parodies of the original concepts and are therefore protected under fair use. There’s no resosn to sue if it’s a parody so I’m siding with MacGruber and South Park Studios. I sided with the original photographer in the Shepard Fairey case since he admitted that he lied about the source and tried to cover it up. He also didn’t really change the image much outside of some vectoring. However, the message was changed from one of “intense concentration” to one of hope.
